really liked it
Read from June 30 to August 03, 2011

For most of the book, I was simply and solely fascinated by the writing style. I kept thinking about how this wasn't my type of book but, at the same time, respected John Cheever's skill and craft.
I read the turning point line of the whole book (last line of Part II)
This book is spectacular! Cheever has the patience to slowly build the story, characters and plot while the reader is completely unaware of his writing command. Suddenly, BOOM, it all comes together. He has had you tied around his little finger the whole way through without you even knowing it!
Another way to describe it without giving it away (and, by the way, DO NOT READ THE BACK COVER DESCRIPTION OF THE BOOK FOR THEN IT WILL GIVE IT AWAY!), the book reads for me like seeing the color gray on a stormy day for soooooo long. An interesting but dreary and sometimes dull, Bullet Park gray. Suddenly, the most intense slash or read rips across the page. The whole ending, even the last line which I keep reading over and over- is really incredible. His choice of words, their repetition and when to use them are so masterly! Bravo! Thank you, John Cheever, for proving me wrong in thinking that this was *only* an interesting and "not me" read. It's truly brilliant!
