it was amazing

I hadn't expected this to be a page-turner, but I had trouble putting it down. Both deeply upsetting and strikingly uplifting, it educates by engaging the reader in the fascinating life stories of six defectors. It's not a perfect book -- it's at times repetitive, and it occasionally stumbles when picking up threads dropped in earlier chapters -- but it's very good, and I strongly recommend it to everyone.

Brian Hi Beth - interesting review. It's good to know the book wasn't perfect but was nevertheless a very interesting and informative read.
