This read like a fable or a story told from a storyteller. That's the best way I can describe it- it didn't read like most novels I've read. It is translated from Danish- so maybe it is Danish folklore- I'm not sure; but a sequel has come out that I plan to read. Not a real happy story but it ends hopeful and has plenty of good things to balance out the bad.
