Reading a French novel is like watching a French film. There's an astounding amount of detail, so much so that it gets a little cloying. Proust is clearly a brilliant writer and a keen observer of human nature, I just prefer more storyline and less expositions on how every tiny little thing affects every other tiny little thing.
