it was amazing

This is the first book in the Insanity series and bind up of the first three books in the series. It is also the first time I have read any of this authors work and I know that I will enjoy his other books. The introduces the reader to Alice Wonder who wakes up in an asylum, in modern day America, with no memory as to why she's there to be told that she killed all her class mates including her boyfriend in a bus accident. She meets another inmate Carter Pillar who's a serial killer who is trying to convince her that she is indeed the Alice from Wonderland and she needs to help to catch all the Monsters from Wonderland including the Cheshire Cat & The Duchess.

I loved the dual perspective of the story (Alice and Carter Pillar) because it was interesting to see how they saw the events as well as what they thought of each other. It also made it that much easier to connect with them. They were both well developed and multi faceted characters who were likeable and believable as were their relationships with the other characters. Although they and all the other characters were well developed because they were so multi-faceted it left room for them to be developed further in future books.

The plot was so well developed and intricate that it kept you intrigued from beginning to end. It was written in a way that at times it made me feel like I was actually part of the story due the descriptions that were given. I loved the sensitive and thoughtful way that the author wrote about the subject of mental illness eg. By saying that the people outside the asylum are actually the ones that are mad not the ones in the asylum, but also because differentiation's were made between the levels of madness within the asylum.

All the characters especially Alice and the Pillar were well developed but with room for further development in future books. They were also multi faceted enough that as the reader I was able to connect with them on many different levels and for different reasons. I loved the relationship between Alice and the Pillar as well as their relationships with other characters in the book, and I can't wait to see how their relationship deepens in the other books.

I would give this part of the bindup a four star rating because although it was a great introduction to the series and made me want to start reading the next Book in the series immediately.

On Goodreads this book is billed as a YA Fantasy, Horror retelling and it fits in to these areas so I would recommend it to anyone or buy it for anyone I know who enjoys YA Books that fall into the afore mentioned genres. I gave this book a four star rating because although it was a great start to what I am sure will be an amazing series it isn't a book that I will read again.
