I enjoy Sarah Vowell's sense of humor and the pacing of her writing. However, I found Unfamiliar Fishes, which focuses on the US acquisition of Hawaii, to be a bit slow and dragging at times. In my opinion, Vowell's work tends to be fun and funny because she is brief and focused. With UF I felt that it was easy to put the book down and walk away from it. I'll still read other things written by Vowell because I think her approach to history is interesting. I'm just glad that this wasn't my introduction to her work.
