it was amazing

One spoiler ahead...
My father recommended this book to me when I was about 14. I read it then and loved it, not realizing that it contained two things not much seen in hard science fiction up until then--women as more than eye candy and the presence of a sex scene. It confused me, because when the mood struck him, my father would swoop down and take away the romance novel I was reading, saying it was trash. (My mother would always give it back.) I wasn't reading that kind of romance novel, actually, but I think I know what he was getting at (without actually speaking, because fathers don't talk to their daughters about that stuff): There's GOOD sex (and books) and BAD sex (and books), and the GOOD kind usually comes with a brain.

I am an sf and mystery girl to the bone, these days, but I still appreciate a dash of romance.
