did not like it
bookshelves: ya

I am not a huge fan of Jane Eyre (gasp! shock! dismay), but I am a huge fan of authenticity, romance and good writing.

And this book was seriously lacking.

Oddly enough, I couldn't put it down. The desire to see what new horror would be conjured to reflect the original overcame my sense of self-preservation.

What drove me nuts about the story was the Nico Rathburn treatment of Mr. Rochester. I don't know anyone who would fall in love with Nico, anyone who would talk to each other in the way Nico and Jane do, or anyone who would act like any of the characters do in real life. (Hmm, sort of reminds me of Wuthering Heights. I kid! I kid!)

But honestly, Jane Eyre deserved better. I'm not against modern retellings of our beloved literary classics, but I think the whole point is to show how universal the stories are.

And this one just doesn't.
