Five Bells by Gail Jones tells the story of four very different people over the course of a Saturday in Sydney. The story meanders through their lives bringing up both good and bad memories. All have been touched by death but survived to various degrees.
It felt a bit clunky in the beginning but then the book hit it's stride and I found it haunting and beautiful. I also loved being able to see every place they went to in the novel having been there myself. It's a wonderful book that will haunt you but don't read it when you are sad.
