really liked it
bookshelves: biography, childrens-non-fiction

In 1901, Annie Edson Taylor, a 62 year old widow and charm school teacher, became the first person to go over Niagara Falls in a wooden barrel. She survived, but the fame and fortune she was hoping for never quite materialized. I love biographies about little known people, and this picture book is perfect: just long enough to tell the story, and plentifully illustrated with Van Allsburg’s lovely drawings. I don't know if kids will pick this up on their own, but I'd definitely recommend it for biography projects for younger readers.
