did not like it

A friend loaned me this book and while I thought it was a page turner, that was only because I wanted to keep reading in the hopes that it would make sense. There were so many things that the author started and then just let drop flat. Brooks explained how things (IE the magic, if that's what it can be called) worked in several different ways and couldn't seem to keep it straight throughout the book.

Syd started out just being an overly-obnoxious girl. As the book progressed, she grew haughty and a bit whorish, even running around naked. There is one point in which she turns into a firefly and there is zero explanation as to why she does. She can turn into an eagle to fly around. Why on earth would she turn into a firefly to go a long distance instead of the eagle?

There was no real connection between any of the characters. They were very one-dimensional and kind of boring. I hoped and hoped that the book would get better but it never did. I would not recommend this to anyone.
