This "British house party" murder, set between the two wars, marks the debut of Albert Campion, the quirky, aristocratic, gentleman sleuth. I love the playful dialogue and the "interior dialogue" characterizations ( "the damned Huns..." "lunatic or drunk") among the principals. Her later mysteries are known to be better plotted and I plan to dig into a few of them.
