it was amazing

One of the best alternative histories I've ever read. Correia blends the skills of the "Actives" so seamlessly with the history of the 1930s and prior, that if you didn't know your world history, you would believe this book to be the truth. By keeping the Great Depression and World War I, it leaves him plenty of room to make little changes that would have had great effect on the history of the world if they had indeed been fact.

Correia also keeps the tone of a private detective novel from that time period - the hard bitten war hero turned private detective, the rich boy, the farm girl, even down to the little details of what life was like in different parts of the country and the world.

I look forward to the next book in this series, and plan to read his other works as well.
