really liked it
bookshelves: mysteries, history-and-biography

Crocodile on the Sandbank is the first of the Amelia Peabody mysteries by Elizabeth Peters. I think I have read the first twenty or so. (They are like eating caramel corn - hard to stop.) The series is well enough written with sufficient detail on ancient Egyptology (Peters has a PhD in the subject) to keep it out of a brown paper wrapper when read in public. Every book features passionate embraces, Victorian fashion details, cats, Egyptology, a mystery and/or adventure story, filthy tombs/pyramids with bats, and the intelligent bickering of a very well educated family.
