I so enjoy Geraldine Brooks' writing style! In this case I related easily to the narrator's (Bethia) voice. The issue raised by this story - the crossing from one culture to another - allowed for a look at the culture of the time including existing prejudices; the roles of females and males; the role of religion; the challenges of "fitting in". While Caleb's crossing into English society in the Colony is the main discussion, Bethia's crossing is no less central to the story. I fully enjoyed this book start to finish.
