it was amazing

Kanafani, a Palestinian, was killed in 1972 after a bomb ignited in his car. In All That's Left to You the story is told by a sister, a brother and the earth to a wonderful effect.

"As usual, the waiter pushed my cup of coffee in front of me without my having asked for it, carelessly spilling the contents into the saucer. He made a gesture to take it back, but I told him it didn't matter; it wasn't necessary to change the dirty saucer, I said, because one's whole life was like that, with out actions spilling into a grimy residue."

"It had been a terrible illusion to suppose that, when he really left, I'd ever sleep while his steps were imprinted on my eyes, night and day."
