** spoiler alert ** This is the first Nero Wolfe book I read where Nero and Archie are not in New York. They have traveling to West Virgina where Nero is the guest of honor and keynote speaker for Les Quinze Maitres, a group of famous chefs. One is murdered during a tasting. Several people try to hire Nero to solve the murder but he refuses. He does not want to stay beyond what has been arranged. When one of the chefs is arrested Nero goes to work to get him released but is finished with the case after that until someone tries to kill him. He and Archie only have a short time to discover the murderer. I like Nero Wolfe and Archie Goodwin. They always get the person. I missed Purdy and Cramer in this tale. The cops and DA in West Virginia listened well and did not obstruct Nero in his investigation. Not a politically correct book but definitely a book that speaks of the time it is written.
