it was amazing

I wish I had read this book before I saw the movie. I try not to make that mistake since I am disenchanted with most screen versions of books. This one added embellishments to the book as well as glossing over some of the emotion in my opinion.

The main characters, Jesse and Leslie, are an unlikely pair, but they each provide something the other is desperate for while sharing in the awkwardness caused by their respective family situations. I didn't know until recently that this is based on a true experience the author had within her own family involving her son and the little girl that was his best friend. What a beautiful tribute Katherine Paterson has written.

This is a story of friendship, family dynamics and loss. Without any specific spoilers, I found the ending heartbreaking so I would suggest having a box of tissue within reach.
