I'm not sure why it took me so long to get around to reading this, but I have to say that this really wasn't my thing. The book itself was charming enough, and I can certainly appreciate anyone wanting to tell the story about their own personal bond with a difficult dog. However, the narrative voice of the author made me roll my eyes more than once, and gender politics and family dynamics that nudge their way in to the story were frequently annoying.

Also, I don't consider myself to be super militant about pet care, but I did agree with other posters here that the Grogans hadn't been properly educated about responsible dog ownership, and seem ignorant about a lot of those principles to this day. I do love dogs though, and I still read it really quickly despite my frequent quibbles.

Pretty meh.

Mary I tried listening to it and didn't even get through the first disc. The author was reading it and had, in my opinion, a bad reading voice.
