Set against the backdrop of Budapest and Paris in the year leading up to and through World War II, this epic tale sucked me right in. I've read and heard some complaints that this book was too long. I disagree -- the juxtoposition of life in the years in Paris before the war to the life of labor camps during the years was part of the brilliance of this book.
