really liked it

This is a great book for starting middle school and dealing with shifting social circles during this transition. Rissa Bartholomew is starting middle school with no friends. At the end of the summer, she realizes that she doesn't have much in common with her friends. She's always been encouraged by grownups to be unique. She decides to become an "independent", but does that really just mean unpopular and friendless?
