Notes: It’s sugar and caffeine: a dulcet pop sonnet moved by rhyming couplets of worldbuilding and perilous confrontation.

"My recently posted reviews on The Kane Chronicles caused a number of my Goodreads friends to recommend I read this series. The general view being that while I may have finished those books with indifference or sour feeling that Percy Jackson and the Olympians is much better. It's a recommendation I can actually take up quite readily as I own all the books. They've been on my TBR forever, and so why not?"

"This is a very interesting book. It's smart, well thought out and adeptly paced; and the more I read it the more I come to think that The Kane Chronicles may have been written as a kind of slap-dash experiment meant to gauge the success of variant ingredients within this narrative formula, of which this series is the exemplar of. Also, if dyslexia and ADHD are strong signs you're a demigod, then I may qualify."

"It's striking, the similarities between this and Harry Potter, at least superficially. They're both set in kind of boarding school, though summer camp is a quintessentially American variation. Both have kids divided into houses by personal qualities, both feature a game played between house teams, both use meals as devices for banter and exposition, both center on a trio, both have a Mr. D as school head, etc."

"Something tells me Rick Riordan must have played a lot of video games growing up, specifically text-based or point-and-click adventure games. There's an emphasis on inventory item accumulation that I don't believe I've seen before in narrative fiction. Also there's an episodic quality to the quest where sections climax with some deathtrap or level boss. Characters even change clothes in a way akin to upgrading armor."

I must get started on this book Jayson. I have never read any of Rick Riordan's books before but your comments have encouraged me to make a start. Thank you!

That's very nice to hear Leila! I appreciate the kind words and I'm glad you found my updates beneficial in this way! Though I must acknowledge that it was the community here that motivated me to read this series, as is borne out in the many comments for Riordan-related posts I've made recently. I don't think I've ever received so much support and encouragement for simply stating my intention to read a book. It's quite remarkable the collective good feeling toward it.
Yay! Glad you enjoyed this Jayson! Looking forward for you to read the rest of the series. Titan's Curse and Last Olympian were my favorites😊🙌🏼
Leona wrote: "yayy, I am so glad you liked this!"I'm glad too Leona! It restored my opinion of Riordan after my previous so-so experience with The Kane Chronicles delayed me for years from reading more of him.
Beatrice wrote: "Yay! Glad you enjoyed this Jayson! Looking forward for you to read the rest of the series. Titan's Curse and Last Olympian were my favorites😊🙌🏼"I look forward to it too Beatrice! Fantasy series tend to get better further down the line, as the world gets more firmly established and characters grow into the history and mythology of it all.
Alice wrote: "The last book of this series was my favorite book for a while a few years ago."That's great to hear! It's very nice to know that it ends on a high note. You don't always get that: The Hunger Games, for example, left me feeling somewhat sour.
Beatrice wrote: "Yay! Glad you enjoyed this Jayson! Looking forward for you to read the rest of the series. Titan's Curse and Last Olympian were my favorites😊🙌🏼"They are my favourites too in the series!! :D
Tahera wrote: "So happy to know you liked it so much..the books keep getting better!"That's great to know Tahera! It's certainly got a solid base to build from.
You know what? I really love the way you write reviews about the books you read. It's very unique and precise.

Rajeswari wrote: "And thank you for writing my name correctly..Most of the people mistake it.Jayson"You're welcome Rajeswari. My name's often misspelled as well. 😁
Jayson, I was already sold on the series, but your review definitely reminded me that I need to get into these books.

Marpapad wrote: "Your comments and reviews made me want to start this series! Thank you very much :)"That's great to hear Marpapad! I'm really happy I was able to help you out this way. I hope it works out as well as the last time I indirectly recommended you a series. 😄👍
Katelyn wrote: "Awesome, was thinking of picking this one up! Love your review :)"Thank you very much, Katelyn! I appreciate it. If you do get around to reading it I hope you enjoy it as much as I did :)
Renégade ♥ wrote: "Hmmm... I've suddenly got a craving for coffee and chocolate! *grin*
Wonderful review, Jayson :)"
Thanks so much, Renégade! I appreciate it. That "sugar and caffeine" line is actually quote from the book, which I came across and thought perfectly described it. So I can't take full credit for inspiring any resultant coffee and chocolate ☕🍫😁
Karen wrote: "I'm glad you're starting this series! Hope you enjoy it :)"Thank you very much, Karen! I appreciate it :)
I pretty much LOVED the series when I first read it years ago. The characters, story and blend of Greek Mythology is just so engrossing 😃.
leslie hamod wrote: "Jayson, you are always most impressive!😘😘😘"Awfully kind of of you to say, Leslie. Thanks :)
Victor The Reader wrote: "I pretty much LOVED the series when I first read it years ago. The characters, story and blend of Greek Mythology is just so engrossing 😃."Yes, I agree with all of that. I actually didn't think I would like this series because I read The Kane Chronicles first, and it was really the opposite of everything you just said you liked about this book. So, this was a very pleasant surprise, and ended up being one of my favorite series.
