An Irish "Blood Meridian." Okay, so maybe not. But Cormac McCarthy ought to be paying Mr. McCabe royalties for his use of the captive-bolt pistol from "the butcher boy." This novel might be better described as a Hibernian Huckleberry Finn, if you're not into the whole brevity thing...
