I picked up this book because there was an article I read a few weeks ago about how it's still controversial--even banned in some places. I wondered how a teen book written in 1975 could still be considered "taboo" by today's standards. I was actually very surprised at how sexually explicit it was. Everything (and I do mean everything) is described in very graphic detail. Parts of the book seemed more like a "how to" manual, and other sections bordered on pornography. As with all realistic fiction, there are sections of the book that haven't aged well--people don't hook rugs, listen to records or embroider mushrooms on their pants anymore for fun--but Judy Blume writes so well that the dated content was inconsequential. I thought that the book was kind of predictable, and it got a little boring at parts, but overall, I enjoyed it.

Athena I like your review! I haven't read 'Forever' well, forever. I am just checking out what people are saying about books I have read recently and in the distant past. Aside from that, I do remember the mushrooms embroidered on the pants and that made me giggle!!! :):)
