Wrestling with the Mind of the Fathers

I liked some of the themes of this book. The neo-patristic synthesis freed Orthodoxy from its captivity to Western Christian categories, but also led to its own problems in Orthodoxy: an idolization of "The Fathers" and the Orthodox Church, treatment of the Fathers as if they were monolithic lot, a narrowing of the mind not in imitation of the Fathers but because it is both safe and different from the West, and a demonization of the West. The book goes into some detail about slavophiles and sophiologists which wasn't particularly interesting to me, but still I liked their attempt to show the broadness of Orthodox thinking and the diversity which really are part of the mind of the Fathers.
