I really, really enjoyed coming back to Prydain after so many years. But I have to admit, I thought the pace was excruciatingly slow and it felt like NOTHING really happened...all the interest seemed to collect around the settings and the characters (whom I must say I still love and the girls love, too) rather than the action. And then when stuff did happen, it was all deus ex machina and offstage to boot. On the other hand, how nice to encounter a young, untried hero who *doesn't* miraculously gain experience points and level up just in the nick of time to save everybody all by himself. Fittingly, the older and far more able adults are the ones who get the real work done; the young protagonists are important helpers, but not the superstars. We've already started the next one. I am eager to follow Taran's character development over the next four stories.
