This is a great book to read before planting your first tomatoes. It contains a lot of information you should consider before selecting a variety and a planting location. Additionally, it contains useful information on saving seed and common tomato growing problems.

Towards the end of the book you can find information on preserving tomatoes and a chapter of tomato recipes. I haven't yet tried any of the recipes included but I certainly intend to.

If your interested in breeding new varieties Appendix C contains a brief guide by William J. Sandok.

Even though I chose and planted a variety before reading this, I found that this book will keep me from making the mistakes of using just any fertilizer and over-watering. For a plant that produces fruit that is mostly water I found its water needs surprising.
