Wonderful subject, great disappointment. For info,
I give it 3-stars. I knew little about the Paris Commune
or that Harriet Beecher Stowe visited Paris. The writing
feels like it was a team-effort. It's pedestrian. GRs
"Grumpus" (review) is on-the-mark. Sometimes I think many
GR members - who had orgazsies - are pretty stoopit.
Bet "Grumpus" agrees.

Sketchbook Absolutely, parts are. But when dun, you cant recall what you read. The writing also has a Puritanical bend to it--.

Jessica Oh dear, I hate nonfiction books like read and read and afterward, remember nothing!

and as for a puritanical bent, I don't doubt it w/McCullough.

Sketchbook A bluestocking--. Best section is the Paris Commune.
