I didn't love this book but it was fascinating, as I'm sure most stories about the Donner Party are. I thought it was really great the way the author, who has researched the Donner Party for years and years, wrote this as a work of fiction, imagining what Tamsen Donner's journal would have been like. Imagining the day to day life of these folks as they are stuck in the mountains for months, dying and starving, is heart-wrenching. I would like to read more on the Donner Party now, yet not anything that sensationalizes the cannibalism part of the story too much.
