it was amazing

A very excellent introduction to rape culture based in a number of pop culture examples and current events (which the author acknowledges will be sadly outdated and replaced by new examples). The writing style is serious, but also light-hearted and candid at times, which is important given the severity of the topic. It is encompassing--covering movies, television, news events, institutions, college rape, etc. Perhaps the biggest strength of the book is its intent to smash rape myths, which would be very helpful to the newbie. My only complaint was that there were some instances of rape and patriarchal exploitation that the author sidelined or went to easy on. There was not much of a discussion of gender as a social construction that allows for men-privileging inequality which must be maintained with rape as a form of systematic terrorism.
