Von Arnim's joy and gratitude and love of natural beauty make this happy reading. She can be hilarious too. Things bog down, though, when she goes inside. The second half of the books is more devoted to her house guests than to nature, which wouldn't be bad if only much of the humor weren't had at the expense of too easy a target.

Kate I am listening to this book while knitting. I'm in the early stages and am enjoying it. Will be curious to see what I think of the second half.

Have you read, An Enchanted April? I also have this out of the library to listen to while knitting.

Patricia I've seen the movie, but I haven't read it. I'll look forward to seeing what you think.
I read Solitary Summer a few years ago and remember liking it.
