it was amazing
bookshelves: readalong, reread, own-it

It's not often that I reread books, but the Adultbooklr readalong gave me the little push I needed to revisit this one, and I'm so glad that I did. I distinctly remember reading this in Miss Hart's class. I can't remember what year, maybe grade 10? I had really enjoyed the book then, but I had clearly forgotten a lot about the story. Revisiting the story 10+ years later, I feel I probably appreciated everything that was going on so much more than I would have as a teenager.
The book tackles difficult topics but presented through the innocent eyes of Scout, these topics are made accessible and somewhat less loaded. I definitely see the place of this book within English curriculums since it provides such an excellent stepping stone to approach far more complex, and still totally relevant social issues.
Maybe now I'll look into Go Set a Watchman.
