JACK
This is a very good book about an amazing man.
I learned a lot about CS (Jack) Lewis from this book. It was nice to read a book written by someone who knew him personally.
I learned:
- He loved poetry.
– He grew up in Ireland.
- He did not own his main home, the Kilns. It was owned by Mrs. Moore, but he was able to live in it until the end of his life.
- He had many friends and he was very witty.
– He was very close, throughout his life, with his brother Warren.
– His brother Warren was an alcoholic.
-His father was a big influence throughout Jack's life until his father died.
– He was an avid reader, smoker, and tea drinker.
- He was active in World War 1 and he was injured in the war.
- He had a very close relationship, for years, with Mrs. Moore, who appears to be a mother figure.
- He truly had a loving relationship with Joy, his wife in his later years.
- He had several life-long friends. Most of these friends were also authors or other literary experts.
- He liked to take long walks with his friends.
– He was very generous with the royalties from his publications.
– He was an avid reader of poetry, classics, and other books.
I was surprised that near the end of his life, when the author listed a number of books that Jack re-read, the Bible was not listed.
The biography does not talk much about the Bible. However, Jack wrote one of the most widely read Christian books: Mere Christianity.
