really liked it
bookshelves: dystopias, family, survival, crime, literary-fiction

Jack has lived his whole life in one room. Jack and Ma have never left Room. Ol' Nick comes in sometimes, but they never get to leave. How would you view the world, if you have never been in it?

Room is a metaphor wrapped up in a crime novel within a work of literary fiction. I liked it an awful lot. It is harrowing; it is frightening. It is ultimately uplifting. Jack and Ma should give us an appreciation for what we have, but also questions about what it is really worth. When the whole world changes, how should we behave? That is the fundamental question of Room. It is worth asking. Recommend for older teens and adults; anyone interested in reassessing the value of their life.
