Expert use of voice. In this memoir, Frank McCourt traces his rather disheveled childhood in the States and then in Ireland, and he somehow manages his voice in such a way that it matures right along with the young (and growing) Frank being discussed. A moving and honest account of a life, simultaneously hilarious and tragic.
