really liked it
bookshelves: young-adult

I have not been one to be interested in historical fiction, but this book was very interesting and I was amazed at all of the sources Jennifer Donnelly used in creating this work of fiction. Donnelly was good at giving information a bit at a time to allow us to see the reason behind main character Andi's despair. I hope that the grief that she felt isn't a usual occurrence for youth, but she manages to find hope after hitting a bottom that she probably already thought she had hit. It took me a while to see where the tie-in would occur with Amade's, Andi's and Alex's stories, but was pleased when it happened.
It was hard to put this book down and, although very sad, it was interesting to get a glimpse into the French Revolution and the lives that were shattered by the revolts.
