really liked it

If you’re looking for something lighthearted and “feel good”, then Six Month Rule is right up your alley. I’m finding that I really enjoy these “relationships with an expiration date” stories. The expiration date seems to add an intensity to when the hero and heroine identify and come to terms with their feelings towards each other, and by the time we reach the end, I’m all wrapped up in warm fuzzies and tiny heart explosions of happiness.

That’s what happened here.

I was a little nervous in the beginning that maybe Holly—who has decided she doesn’t date men and won’t entertain the idea of a relationship that lasts longer than six months—might grate on me a little. I was worried she might get too hung up on her “rules” and push me towards a Kindle smashing moment. Only, that never happened.

The relationship she built with Will was a slow build (at least emotionally) and, by the time she realized her feelings, I felt like she handled them beautifully. Her reluctance to commit herself to anything long term was less about the rules and more about the logistics—and that was an internal conflict I could identify with. I loved Holly more than I expected to; she’s a workaholic with a soft underbelly that she doesn’t expose to very many people. Her soft spots were heartwarming and adorable, and as she slowly let Will see them, she set my heart into a tailspin.

Speaking of tailspins…

Will Evans. *Fans self* It’s crazy how a British accent can relay itself in written word, right? Like, the power of the accent should be auditory, but I guess that’s why the imagination is such a beautiful thing. Because this British hunk completely stole my heart. The things he says. The things he does. I was swooning all over the place for him, hoping that Holly would soon follow.

This didn’t play out exactly the way I expected it to—and that’s a good thing. It was emotional and sweet and completely rewarding, and I wound up loving everything about the way it ended. Six Month Rule is a super cute, super sweet, and a super perfect pick-me-up for a world weary heart. ~ Shelly, 4 stars
