really liked it
bookshelves: non-fict, sociology, 2011

This book is advertised as a close-up look at an inner-city gang's hierarchy. It's not. It's a general survey of what he sees being a hanger-on with an inner-city gang in Chicago. It was cool, don't get me wrong. Most academics don't get that level of access but it's general and more of a memoir rather than a study of the gang itself. So it was disappointing in that right, but still an extremely enjoyable read.
