This book was about a 12 year-old girl who battled three types of polio for seven months. She stayed in a hospital two hours from her home and was treated every day, while keeping up with her school work all on her own. This book was actually written by the girl herself, telling her story later in life. She tells what treatments were like, and of her relationships with her four roommates who had polio as well.
This is one of my favorite books. I read it a long time ago and didn't remember everything that happened, but I liked it just as much this time as I did the first. Not only did I learn a lot about polio, but it was such an emotional story and I really felt for each of the girls with polio by the end of the novel. I would recommend this book to absolutely everyone, I haven't met one person who's disliked it thus far. Also, this was my decades book that I read for the 1950s.
