it was amazing
bookshelves: for-school, favorites

What a beautiful, precious book. I really loved the poetry of Beloved--but this one, I think this one just tops it. Perhaps it's because I identify with Esperanza so much: growing up in the city, the neighbors, the people who are nice, or strange, or cruel, or filthy. She perfectly captures that odd and awkward transition from child to adult, and the fight to stay one or be the other, or to be both at the same time. I'll read it again and again.
