This book was at times confusing, lugubrious, & just plain boring. But I loved the setting (Salem MA) & could see many of the descriptions of locales in my mind's eye (The Conant statue, Portland Maine's Congress Street, the Peabody-Essex, the Derby pier & Derby Street, Customs House, etc.). I would LOVE to learn to make lace. I do all kinds of needlework (almost every kind except needlepoint, tatting, & a few others) but I would love the challenge of lace-making.
