Wow!! This book was short but intense!
The pacing was great. There were no dull moments and the story flowed smoothly. Despite the book being short, it was in no way rushed. It simply didn't read like a short book. I didn't feel like I was missing anything because every necessary detail was given without making the narrative choppy.
I really liked how Lucas's past was explained through flashbacks in his POV and how the author let his perspective catch up to the present timeline. It definitely showed this character's growth and depth.
Lucas seemed to have a hero complex but I liked it and felt that it worked here. I loved the way his relationship with Ava developed. They were two broken pieces that made one soul and their tragedy that occurred in their lives made their story beautiful.
There isn't much action, but this story does tackle issues such as loss, grief, addiction, healing, hope, friendship and love with a little crime mixed in to give it some flavour.
I was disappointed with the ending. I wanted more of a true feel for their future than what I found in the epilogue.
This was an excellent start to Bella Jewel's new series.
