I really wasn't sure what to expect when I started reading this book. And it took me an entire day to put my thoughts together in order to write a review. I would think of something to say and then look like this:
Our story is about a girl from a troubled home with a distrust for authority. Constantly in trouble at school and squandering her natural intellect, Davey is a wreck. But I found myself easily able to connect with her. In fact, I was already her friend by the third or fourth chapter.
When our mysterious Officer Ethan Remington comes into play, I immediately began to suspect something was different about him. Little things he did and said were curious to me. I tried to pay close attention, attempting to guess the mystery surrounding Ethan before it could be revealed. I was super sleuthing to the highest degree.
Slowly, the events and pieces of the puzzle began to come together. At first, I was confused. I had expected a paranormal angle and was slightly disappointed to find it was more sci-fy, instead. I was surprised and a little overwhelmed by the truth of the mystery. I won't give anything else away. Still, I thoroughly enjoyed this book and the romance was spicy, too!
The one thing that worried me about the story was the open-ended conclusion. I still have questions that aren't answered! I wonder if there will be a repeating of events and if the couple will be ripped apart, again? Since this isn't a series, I guess I'll never know. I will just have to imagine there is a happily-ever-after.
In closing...
I found this book's writing to be some of the best I have read in a while. It flowed smoothly and was an effortless read. I am excited to check out Eden Ashley's other books. 4 suns!
