I spent much of this book thinking "huh, this isn't really up to par for Michael Pollan" and then remembering that it isn't. Bittman is unfortunately reluctant to cite actual data and shows a tendency towards the no true Scotsman fallacy, though he does include a sources list in the appendices. Food Matters is a quick read, especially if you skim the recipe section (full of tasty-looking food), and the thrust is worthwhile, but I'd recommend other books over this.
