I really enjoyed this collection of early, previous unpublished short stories. This early Vonnegut is every bit as much the moralizer that he remained throughout his life, but without quite the masterful imaginativeness of his major works. Little sign of hallmark smug angry bitterness. I can only surmise Vonnegut never published these stories in his lifelime because they seem a bit sentimental, if not "cute", and lack the sophistication of his later writing. But I loved these stories. My friends at the SEC will especially appreciate "Bomar", a tale of two clerks who send out the company's dividend checks, and entertain themselves by inventing an elaborate fictitious backstory for Mr. Bomar, one of the company's shareholders. Dont worry, KV, definitely not a waste of the reader's time.
