I enjoyed the story and writing very much, but I had too much trouble with Tessa's loyalty to her father and brother to give it four stars.

They pressured her into "marrying" her "second husband," and gave her no support in dealing with his abuse. And that's just what she knows at the start of the book. Turns out they faked her first/real husband's death, sent him to prison, and -- and this is the real kicker -- told her their child was stillborn and while she was grieving and under the influence of some heavy-duty drugs tricked her into signing papers giving the child up for adoption.

I would have no problem with pursuing justice in that situation. Forgiveness and healing? Yes, in time. But first, the justice, the making things right. Clearly family is not as important to them as she had thought.
