for starters, alina matured and quit crying and whining for 85% of the book! she finally learned to accept her power and the responsibility that came with wielding it. i liked the way she was able to stand up against the apparat when he kept her underground, away from her friends and allies.

i loved the secondary characters more than ever- tolya, tamar, genya, david, adrik, nikolai, and even zoya.

the story behind morozova and the darkling's family was interesting but not unexpected. (view spoiler)

good thing the action scenes were a lot more tense and thrilling to read.
that said, i was not happy with the way the book ended. even if the epilogue broke my heart a little (view spoiler)

onto reading six of crows! i started it like two months ago, but i didn't fully understand what was going on, so i decided to read the grisha trilogy first.
