I kept seeing this book everywhere online and I'm so glad I picked it up. It feels like it will be one of my favorites of the year and I will be returning to it in the future.
It's beautifully written, its account of Victorian England different that what we are used to. I loved the themes and the amazing characters. Through her writing, Perry manages to make the locations of the book work like characters themselves, the vibrant, eerie Essex countryside, and busy, never-sleeping London of the 1890s. It is a great book to get lost into, deeply human, thoughtful and kind. A wonderful read!
