This has been one of my favorite books for a very long time, and I'm so glad I decided to reread it and rewatch the movie recently! (The movie is fantastic, by the way. Don't let Rotten Tomatoes tell you otherwise!) I think I subconsciously noticed a lot of the Christian themes in the story when I read it as a child, but rereading it now they are much clearer, and very beautifully woven through the story. I have no idea if the author is Christian or not, but The City of Ember shot through with truth and beauty in a way that few books are. This story really helped shape my imagination as a kid, and it's definitely one I'll be returning to again and again. Stay tuned as I reread the rest of the series!
