really liked it

You might think this is too slim a topic to fill an entire book -- I did, and I was wrong. Bai does a great job arguing that Hart's 1987 flameout was the 'big bang' of dumb political press coverage. This is a also a really great character study of Hart himself (built on the shoulders of "What It Takes"). He also deftly demonstrates how our received memory of the incident is mostly wrong and remembered incorrectly. And Bai argues that Hart presaged many of our biggest present-day policy questions. Bai is a smart, humane writer, and you'll feel smarter and more humane for reading this.
